This is the type of movie that simply could never be made in modern day. There is really no other way to put it. The content in this movie is simply deplorable and in a modern setting every person involved would have had their hard drives confiscated and someone would have ended up behind bars. It makes it even sicker to know that they literally made this movie twice within two years.
The Babysitter (1969) was a movie about an older man being seduced by an underage babysitter for his kids. He was a politician and even though the D.A. has pictures of him with the girl, he is let off without even a warning when the D.A. proclaims, "I would have done it myself". One year later, the same writer, director, producer, and star decided to do it all over again.
In Weekend With the Babysitter (1970) our protagorapist is film director, the babysitter is maybe not underage, and his wife is a dirty drug addict who had it coming! Yes, this movie is just as bad, if not worse, as their first attempt to justify an older man sleeping with a much younger woman.
Now you might wonder, how does the movie get away with such a disgusting premise? How were people not outraged at an older man taking advantage of a younger girl? Because Crown International is smarter than you; much smarter. Instead of having the older man prey on the young girl, she seduces him. All you have to do is reverse the rolls and an act that would land a man behind bars is simply laughed off and considered "sweet" - at least in the world of Crown.
The movie itself is just horrible on every level. Imagine what it would be like to have a man in his 60's write a movie about him trying to be hip and understand the youth of today. He smokes pot, he listens to music, he rides a motorcycle, he sleeps with a young girl, and he's incredibly wealthy and respected in his community. There is zero conflict in his story and he gets away with everything. Yup, nothing goes wrong for this guy!
But what about his wife? She must care about his dalliances with a part-time caretaker of their child right? Nope. She's too busy being a heroin addict and a horrible human being on every conceivable level. It's almost like she deserves to be cheated on, you know, to teach her a lesson, the dirty drug addict who uses his money to feed her $10,000 heroin addiction (in 1970's dollars) and won't sleep with him anymore. She's not in need of help, she's in need of a wake up call! Yup, it's Crown, women are evil.
Despite all it's technical shortcomings and lack of coherence and morals, Weekend With the Babysitter is an enjoyable watch. It's Crown International we are talking about here! If anyone knows how to polish a turd, it's Crown.
